Advancement Via Individual Determination = AVID

AVID is a National Program designed to help the "middle/average" student go to college.  Students receive tutoring and support throughout thier high school career to help them pass AP and Honors courses and succeed at a 4-year University.  The AVID curriculum includes: note taking skills, test taking skills, test preperation for the PSAT, SAT and ACT, 4-year planning, college/career exploration, COLLEGE FIELD TRIPS, guest speakers, tutoring, and lots of reading and writing!  AVID has a 98% success rate of high school seniors attending 4-year universities.

DHS is very proud of our four AVID sections:

9th Grade AVID/Honors English 9:  Ms. Hebert  (year long course)

10th Grade AVID: Mr. Guzman

11th Grade AVID: Mr. Pickrell

12th Grade AVID: Mr. Rocha

Do you want to be in AVID?  Here are the requirements to apply:

1) have between a 2.5-3.5 overall GPA

2) your parents cannot have a 4-year degree.

3) have the motivation and DETERMINATION to go to a University!
